Dr. Burhan Abdul Kabeer Mohammed Niyazi

 Assistant Professor

Profile

Currently, Dr. Burhan Niyazi occupies the position of Deputy Director of Water Research Center at King Abdul Aziz University. He did all his pre-college education in Al-Medina Al-Munawwarah and then got his B.sc. degree in Irrigation Engineering in 1987 from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, King Saud University, Riyadh. He worked as an irrigation engineer in TADCO, Tabuk and then in the Ministry of Municipality between 1987 and 1994. In 1994, he was appointed as a demonstrator at the department of Hydrology and Water Resources Management at King Abdul Azizi University. He got his first master degree in Hydrology from the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources Management, King Abdul Aziz University in 1997. In 2001, he earned his second master degree in Water Resources Engineering from the department of Biosystems Engineering, Clemson University, USA.  In 2006, he was granted the Ph.D. degree in Water Resources Engineering from the Department of Biosystems Engineering, Clemson University, USA. In the middle of 2006, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the department of Hydrology and Water Resources Management, King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia and still in the same position up to now. He served as the Assistant Dean for Development at the Faculty of Meteorology, Environment and Arid Land Agriculture during the period April 28, 2007 – March 15, 2011.

During his work in the College of Meteorology, Environment and Arid Land Agriculture, he led or served in several committees such as academic accreditation committee, program and institutional self assessment committee according to the standard of the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment and the high committee for developing Hada Al-Sham Research Station. Also, he participated in preparing, coordinating and developing the college strategic plan and then served in the committee for writing and editing the college strategic plan documentation. Now, he leads working groups and committees to develop implementation plans for the strategies plan in the college.

By studying in the Department of Agricultural Engineering then in the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources Management and the Department of Biosystems Engineering after that, he gained some experience in the science of irrigation engineering, agriculture, water resources management and engineering, agro-meteorology and environmental sciences the deepened his knowledge in studying crop water consumptive use, designing and developing irrigation systems to conserve water in agriculture and protecting water resources from pollution. Designing and maintaining irrigation systems, crop water consumptive use and irrigation scheduling are the most interesting research areas to him. Moreover, he is interested in developing modern irrigation systems to match the new techniques in this field such as precise irrigation and site-specific irrigation to improve water use efficiency in cropping fields. He is a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
